Hulme's Adult
Learning programme
"Learning benefits individuals, families, communities, employers, the economy and society as a whole. Those who participate in learning are likely to be healthier, happier and better paid than those who do not"
- National Institute of Adult Continuing Education

Venture Arts specialise in running art workshops for adults with learning disabilities. They host several different workshops that cover a wide range of artistic approaches and mediums. As 16% of those taking part in adult learning have a learning disability/difficulty, it is essential to provide appropriate facilities that can cater to these individuals.
Gap Unit support individuals who are ‘politically marginalised’ to gain skills and confidence to affect change’. They empower individuals by leading projects that start dialogues between the ‘politically marginalised’, and other members of their community.
University of the Third Age is a ‘self-help organisation’ that provides different learning opportunities for people no longer in full time employment. The charity believes learning is a continuous process, and that those who participate are doing so for ‘pleasure’.
The success of Hulme’s Adult Learning Centre is reliant on its provision of a multitude of classes and programmes that can cater to the needs of a variety of users, and their specific capabilities and needs. Providing additional space for existing organisations based within Hulme and Manchester, means these organisations can provide further support for a greater number of adult learners. I have identified three such organisations that support the development of adult education.
