The Love of Detail

The axonometric drawing is a development of my 3.2 Construction Details, examining the inhabiting of the Adult Learning Centre by users and furniture. It further explores the choice in materiality, exposing the layers of construction that forms the buildings’ fabric.

Roof: Eco Slate, 304 x 430 x 7.5; slate battens, 25 x 50mm; counter battens, 38 x 19mm; timber rafters, 100mm, with rigid insulation, 82.5mm; rigid insulation, 37.5mm; vapour barrier; tongue and groove timber roof panels, 121 x 12mm; CLT timber rafters 127mm x 300mm; CLT timber beams.

First floor: timber tongue and groove flooring finish, 18 x 130mm; chipboard, 18mm; acoustic battens (15mm LRAC foam type II bonded to timber battens), 45 x 53mm; concrete cast in situ, 120mm; trapezoidal steel decking and sheer studs; steel beam, 147.3 x 265 mm, bolted to steel girder, 142 x 398m, by steel cleat
Metal frame ceiling: hangers, 330mm; light steel keel, 38mm; dowel clip; solid maple vertical slats, 30 x 38mm, connected by maple dowel at 15mm centres.

Floor and foundation: timber tongue and groove flooring finish, 18 x 130mm; floor screed, 75mm; insulation board, 75mm; damp proof membrane; raft of concrete foundation, 150mm; sand binding layer, 75mm; hardcore layer, 150mm.

Wall: unbaked clay brick slip, 295 x 45 x 140mm; airspace; steel stud and tie; rigid insulation, 50mm; glass mat sheathing, 15mm; steel stud; mineral wool insulation, 144mm; gypsum plasterboard, 12.5mm.
