A courtyard space separates the three Adult Learning Centre buildings, with landscaped paths connecting the spaces at ground level. However, because of the close proximity of these buildings, at certain points of day the courtyard could potentially be under lit.

To address this issue the Adult Learning Centre has been affixed with two sets of Heliostat devices and redirection mirrors. The Heliostats are motorised mirrored devices that track the sun, reflecting the sunlight onto fixed redirection mirrors. The redirection mirrors have been fitted at 18.5° and 45° degree angles, respectively, meaning the light is then transmitted downwards, lighting the landscape at 30m and 10m, respectively.
