The Adult Learning Centre has three distinct functions: an entrance and public domain that is accessible to all Hulme residents, and encourages locals to consider adult education as a viable option; spaces that support the studies of adult learners using the centre; and spaces that house outside organisations who work with adult learners.

Having established that a singular building was on too great a scale, did not optimise natural daylighting, and was overtly simple, the Adult Learning Centre was split into three buildings, each accommodating one of the functions addressed above.

In the initial process of organisation spaces were simply organised between the three buildings, without overt consideration. However, through further investigations spaces and floor were organised based upon user needs, security, access and daylighting.
